The appearance of potassium hydroxide is white flake or powder, with strong corrosive and strong alkaline. When potassium hydroxide is exposed to the air, it is easily deliquesced by moisture in the air and absorbs carbon dioxide to form potassium carbonate. Soluble in water, ethanol or acid, and release a lot of heat.

Potassium hydroxide solubility at different temperatures, the solubility is also different. At 0 ℃, can dissolve 97 grams of potassium hydroxide; at 10 ℃, can dissolve 103 grams of potassium hydroxide; at 20 ℃, can dissolve 112 grams of potassium hydroxide; at 30 ℃, can dissolve 126 grams of potassium hydroxide. It can be seen that the solubility of potassium hydroxide is also improved when the temperature is high.

Potassium hydroxide has a cauterization effect on tissues, which can dissolve proteins and form alkaline denatured proteins. Solution or dust splashed on the skin, especially on the mucous membrane, can produce soft scab. The higher the solubility of potassium hydroxide, the higher the temperature, the stronger the effect. If accidentally splashed into the eye, it can not only damage the cornea, but also damage the deep tissues of the eye.

The higher allowable concentration of potassium hydroxide is 0.5 mg/m. When working, you should prevent touching skin and eyes. If you touch it carelessly, you can wash the damaged part with running water, and then wet apply 5% acetic acid, tartaric acid, hydrochloric acid or citric acid solution. If splashing human eyes, carefully and slowly wash with running water or normal saline for 10-30min, and then add 2% novocaine or 0.5 dicaine solution.

Potassium hydroxide, is a kind of no organic compound, chemical formula KOH, is a common no organic base, with strong alkaline, 0.1mol/L solution pH 13.5, soluble in water, ethanol, slightly soluble in ether, easy to absorb moisture in the air and deliquescence, absorb carbon dioxide into potassium carbonate, mainly used as raw materials for the production of potassium salt, can also be used for electroplating, printing and dyeing.
